What's on June 2017
The Beechdown Bulletin highlights can be emailed to you each month, with updates throughout the month... email email@example.com
We are aware of the issue with Ladies Showers and are planning major work to fix the problem with the flooring and walls. This work is not possible before July. We apologise for the appearance of facilities between now and then.
We’re very pleased to announce the launch of our new club website. Check it out at beechdown.co.uk
We hope you like the way it looks and find it easy to navigate to the information you need.
Over the summer we will add functionality so that members can book classes, courts and even Beauty Treatments.
Father's Day Fun
Food, Drink and Live Music in the Gardens. The weather forecast is looking good - so we’ll be a great place to enjoy Father’s Day afternoon.
Beers/Lagers for just £3.00
Fathers Day gift....ALL draught beers and lagers just £3 a pint between 1 and 2pm on Sunday 18th. Then, from 2pm the sensational Billy Phillips, from TV’s Stars in their Eyes. The main menu will continue until 5pm, plus HOG ROAST BAPS with tender pork, crispy crackling, stuffing and apple sauce. The baps are just £5, plus £1.50 if you’d like fries as well. My advice is ‘Come Early!!’ Billy Phillips is a really first class entertainer and the food, as always, will be wonderful.
Early Morning Exercise
It’s such a great time of year to get up early. This morning I arrived at the club at 6.30 am and there were already 30+ cars at the club.
It was great to see more than 10 members enjoying Virtual Spin and Pump, the Functional Area Buzzing with people doing intervals, and both Squash Courts in Action with Tom running his early Morning Mix In. So next time you wake up before the alarm clock goes off, come down to the club and fit in a workout before breakfast. You’ll feel fabulous for the rest of the day!! The club opens at 6am during the week or 8am at Weekends.
New UFO in the gym
The UFO, or the Unidentified Fitness Object, is a suspension platform that is unique to the Queenax. Its origin is rooted in board sports, and its four connection points allow the exerciser to drive it in 360 degrees. Training on the UFO brings a big fun factor and enhances motor control, balance, rhythm, body awareness, mental engagement, and strength. See here for some UFO exercises or ask one our Queenax Trained Gym Staff.
VIPR 30 minute training sessions
During June the gym team will be putting you through your paces with training sessions using the ViPR. If you haven’t yet used one, or need a refresher, make sure you book in. VIPR bridges the gap between movement and strength training combining full body movement with load. VIPR is Loaded Movement Training which combines task oriented movement patterning with resistance. Book in with a member of the gym team for your VIPR session.
TRX Master Class
During this month will are putting on a TRX masterclass every Monday 7.15-7.45pm with Zac in the Queenax room. This will be bookable for 8 people and will run for 30mins. Did you know the TRX challenges the core in every single exercise you perform on it. The core is more than just your abs, it includes the pelvis, abs, back and chest muscles. It is the core that improves your body stability, balance and flexibility. Book from 8am Sunday.
Gym Plyo Challenges
Who doesn’t love a challenge? During June we are encouraging you to see how many Plyojumps you can do on the Green, Blue and Red boxes in 30 seconds. You can write down your results on the board in the Queenax room and work your way up to the Red Box. Speak to an instructor for help, advice, technique tips and to time you. Remember your body can do it, it’s your mind you have to convince. Look out for our gym instructors taking part on Facebook throughout the month. Prize draw to win a Queenax T-shirt at the end of the month.
Now the weather seems to be warmer......sort of! We would like to remind you to stay well hydrated during your training sessions and throughout the day. Water is very important as your body uses water in all its cells, organs and tissues to help regulate its temperature and maintain other bodily functions. Look out for some flavoured water in the gym throughout the month.
Classes for Teens
We now offer more than 50 classes each week for teenagers (age 12+). There are a high number of Virtual Classes that children 12+ can attend. As virtual classes are instructor-less, a parent must also attend the session. Through June as a trial, we are going to allow kidz 12+ to attend Sunday morning’s Queenax class at 10.30am provided a parent also attends the class. Family Torture every Sunday morning with Zac! Book at Reception.
Barre Concept New Sunday Class
Barre Concept is the latest, fantastic edition to your studio timetable. Celebrities LOVE IT!!.....now there's a chance for you to enjoy it too!!
This unique workout combines the elements of Pilates, Yoga, Resistance Training and Ballet into a highly effective workout performed on the mat and at a ballet barre.
The effect is a long, lean dancers body without being a dancer! The low impact, total body workout lifts the butt, tones the thighs, flattens the abs and sculpts the arms, whilst protecting the joints.
Stretches are performed after each strength section of the class to ensure the muscles are re-lengthened to create a body that is strong without the added bulk of other regimes. Fridays at 9.15am-10am and 10am-10-45 with Lauren.
Sundays at 10.15-11am with Mandy (starts Sunday 4th)
Because of the nature of the Barre Concept spaces are limited to 16 participants per class, so please always pre-book before you attend.
SEE YOU AT THE BARRE!
This month we would like to remind you how brilliant and essential Pilates and BodyBalance are to stay strong, supple and continue with a healthy lifestyle.
Pilates on Wednesday evenings at 6pm with Mandy and Thursday evenings BodyBalance class at 8pm with Jilan are just two of our excellent Mind and Body classes.
We would like to invite you to join in these two classes with a friend or family member from outside the club. Ask at Reception and you can get a Class Pass for a friend to try either of these classes.
A Class Pass will allow the friend access to the club 30 minutes before the class is due to start.

Let’s start with two brilliant results; Mixed A who won Division 1, top league in Basingstoke – an amazing achievement and Mixed C also winning their Division, another great result. Open A maintained their position in Division 1 with Open B finishing 2nd in their Division. All the Ladies 4 had a good season with the Ladies C team losing out to the Ladies B by the narrowest of margins! Tim and I would like to congratulate all team players on a great season with some memorable and competitive matches. Not forgetting all those players aiming to be team players next year who regularly support club nights and have played matches to cover regular players. Well done to you all!! Look out for the summer fun tournament that will be advertised soon.
