NEW POWERPLATE - WIN A GOODY BAG
You may have noticed that we have updated the Powerplate with an advanced version; we would like to show as many of you as we can how the new and improved Powerplate works by booking on for a Powerplate induction. You can perform a variety of exercises on the Power Plate, and the results are magnified thanks to the proprietary PrecisionWave Technology, which activates the body's natural reflexive response to vibration. The vibrations force your muscles to work harder whilst doing the same exercise. The Powerplate promotes quick, reflexive responses in the body's muscle fibres and can increase circulation which can be beneficial to people who retain water. It can also improve your balance, mobility and stability, strength and motor control. Also for every member that books and attends a Powerplate induction will be entered to win 1 of 10 goody bags.
You may or may not have seen that we offer nutritional reviews for all our members, we have food diaries on the gym desk for you to take away and fill. Then book in with a gym instructor who can go through your food diary and make suggestions to help you with any goals you may be working towards. For many people, it isn't until they keep track of what they are eating that they see what they are missing out on or consuming too much of. Book in for your review with a gym instructor at the gym desk.
We have had a lot of people asking for help with summer programmes for holidays coming up so this month we are going to focus on the lower body with legs and abs. We recommend you do this programme 2-3 times a week combined with what you're already doing but would recommend that you are constantly challenging yourself and upping your weights and increasing your cardio intensity for maximum benefits. If you are still are unsure on Advagym then book in for an induction with a member of the gym team where we can help you download the app and get you started.
NEW GYM INSTRUCTOR
Please join us in welcoming Caroline to the gym team; she may seem familiar to some of you as she has been a member for a few years. Caroline is a wonderful asset to the gym team and we look forward to introducing her to you in classes and through gym appointments. She is currently studying GP referral too which is something we look forward to offering in the future.
We have monitored spin class bookings over the last month and have found that on a weekly basis we have had over 13 people booked onto a spin class who then fail to attend and don't cancel.
We cannot stress enough how important it is that you cancel if you are unable to attend a class.
This prevents other members from being able to participate. Going forward we will be contacting regular no shows and reserve the right to withdraw their booking privileges.
Thank you so much for your co-operation
See you in the Gym
FREE CLASS PASS - BODY PUMP EXPRESS IS CLASS OF THE MONTH
I am dedicating this month's bulletin to one of our most beneficial fitness classes; BODYPUMP EXPRESS
So why should you include BodyPump Express in your weekly fitness regime?!
Let me give you some facts.
Firstly it's a low impact class which will improve your fitness without harming your joints and is just as effective as a high-impact activity, such as running, in lowering the risk of heart disease. Weight-bearing and resistance exercises, such as are in a BodyPump class, ARE the best for your bones as the exercises force you to work against gravity.
Exercise for bone health is vital at every age for healthy bones and is important for treating and preventing osteoporosis. Did you know, like muscle, bone is living tissue that responds to exercise by becoming stronger.
Stronger muscles enhance coordination and balance, thus reducing the risk of falling and possibly fracturing a bone......weight-bearing exercises provide the stress load that bones need to stimulate mineral uptake.
While you can expect to burn up to 500 calories in BodyPump Express, it's the building of lean muscle that provides the long-term benefits. By building lean muscle mass you increase your body's ability to effectively burn calories in the long term as the extra muscle will raise your metabolism.
The effectiveness of BodyPump comes from the "Rep Effect," a proven formula that exhausts muscles using light weights, while performing high repetitions-this is the secret to developing lean athletic muscle. From a different perspective;
Sometimes classes can feel a little intimidating if you're not the most coordinated of people but due to its easy choreography and every exercise being done on the spot this makes BodyPump "friendly" for both men & women.
It's a well-known fact that people thrive in an environment where there are like-minded people around them.
Group exercise is a perfect example. Having someone next to you doing the same thing encourages you to work harder. That together with an excellent instructor motivating and coaching you through it all is a recipe for success. Last, but by no means least, 45 minutes is all that's needed to maintain a healthy, fit, strong body. It's an "achievable" workout too because you can push your body to its maximum, but without losing form or stamina. BodyPump Express does all of this, no major muscles are left out either as this unique 45-minute format combines Biceps/Triceps and Lunges/Shoulders.
So there you have it all the facts behind this awesome workout. Not forgetting the added bonus......your workouts done for the day........in 45 minutes too.
One more reason to attend this class: for the month of May we'd like to invite a guest, friend or family, to join you.
Pick up a Class Pass from Reception which will allow your friend to join you for the class on Friday Mornings. Now you have no excuses not to try BODYPUMP EXPRESS, every Friday at 10.10am with Frankie.

A number of changes for the May Rackets Timetable - Pick Up the May timetable from Reception.
As we try to increase participation in Racketball. Racketball is one of the UK's fastest growing sport!
It is played on a squash court and is similar to squash. In racketball, a larger, bouncier ball and a shorter racket are used. Overall this makes the game much easier to pick up than many other sports like Squash or Tennis.
Racketball is said to be, "Easy to learn yet difficult to master" which is one of the key factors in the sports recent growth. We'd like to encourage new players to try this great sport! Simply attend a session and we will supply all equipment that's required.

Firstly we would like to congratulate Dan Sheppard who won the Basingstoke League Mixed Open with his partner Jo McGill - Great result!!
We had a reasonably good season this year with the Open B coming runners up in their division. We would like to thank the captains of all our teams who have done a sterling job this year as in some instances they have had to work very hard to keep a regular team together, we also appreciate all players that have stood in at the last minute!
Ketan, Nick J and Patrick have all picked up injuries this year so we wish them a speedy recovery. The season is virtually over but the badminton continues over the summer.
